Press Release
Burgess Bus Trip Bound for West Bend and Okoboji
There is still room on one of two buses for the upcoming Burgess Advantage trip to the West Bend Grotto and Okoboji Friday, June 20.
Travelers will depart at 7 a.m. from Onawa Community Center parking lot and enjoy a continental breakfast on the bus.
Around 10 a.m. they will visit the famous Grotto of Redemption in West Bend, Iowa. The grotto, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iowa, features precious stones in small grottos that portray scenes in the life of Christ.
Lunch will be served during a cruise on the Okoboji Queen II, which looks and feels like the steamboats of yesteryear. During the cruise a tour guide will relate historical landmarks around the Iowa Great Lakes.
In mid-afternoon, visitors will then make a nostalgic stop to colorful Arnolds Park and browse nearby shops. They will then attend “Nunsense II” at the Okoboji Theatre, a light-hearted production that delights audiences. The trip concludes with dinner at Minervas with dinner, located next door to one of Okoboji's most exciting new gift shops.
"At Arnolds Park when we depart the Queen II, we will have time to shop, sit and enjoy a summer treat," says Jean Pekarek, director of patient experiences. "Our visitors can take a nostalgic ride on the roller coaster or visit the Maritime Museum all located within a very short distance."
The bus is expected to arrive in Onawa around 11:30 p.m. The fee of $95 covers all meals, the Okoboji cruise, theatre, bus travel and tips. To register call Jean Pekarek at Burgess Health Center: 712-423-9201.
