Burgess Wellness Screens Check Health Numbers

A general Wellness Screening will be held from 6:30 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8 and 15 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Wellness Screenings will also be at the same times April 9 at the Burgess Family Clinic Sloan and April 22 at the Burgess Family Clinic Dunlap.

Testing will include a complete blood count (CBC) and comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP.) These panels provide information on hemoglobin, white and red blood cell counts, cholesterol and lipid values, blood glucose and kidney and liver function tests.

Participants must fast for 10-12 hours.

"These screening events provide the public with a cost-effective opportunity to evaluate good and bad cholesterol, glucose, and electrolytes such as potassium or calcium that need to be monitored regularly," says Beth Frangedakis, Burgess lab director.

The cost of the test is $35. An additional PSA test for a prostate cancer screen and thyroid function test for the TSH number are also available for $20 each.
