Webcast to Air on Diversity and End of Life Care

Persons are invited to watch a three-hour webcast teleconference “Diversity and End-of-Life Care,” from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29 at the Monona County Extension office. It is sponsored by Burgess Home Health/Hospice, Iowa State Extension and Hospice Foundation of America.

The bereavement teleconference will feature a panel examining how diversity influences end-of-life decision-making and the impact that culture has at the time of death and during bereavement. The teleconference will help professionals acknowledge how their own cultural values and assumptions influence the delivery of care. The program will also discuss the challenges that can occur when culture considerations cause ethical concerns or moral distress.

The 16th annual teleconference will be moderated by Frank Sesno, a special correspondent with CNN and a professor of media and public affairs at George Washington University and.

Each year the Hospice Foundation of America presents a nationally recognized distance learning broadcast program to educate persons on issues affecting end-of-life care. The program provides an opportunity for doctors, nurses, teachers, funeral directors, psychologists, social workers, grief counselors and others to share ideas.

CEUs are available for social workers, case managers, funeral directors, clergy and others. Pre-registration is encouraged. For more information contact Burgess Home Health/Hospice at 712-423-9265.
