Burgess Board Officially Votes to Purchase Mapleton Clinic

Burgess Health Center will officially purchase Mercy Medical Center’s Maple Valley Medical Clinic in Mapleton effective Jan. 1 to ensure that a local clinic will continue to serve the healthcare needs of the community.

The Burgess board of directors approved the clinic purchase at its Nov. 23 meeting, announced Fran Tramp, Burgess president.
Drs. Alan and Jennifer Schenne and their staff members will continue to be employed at the clinic when Burgess assumes operations, Tramp confirmed. NeLinda Rhode, nurse practitioner of Midwest Health and Wellness Center, will join Burgess Maple Valley Medical Clinic Jan. 25.

“We are committed to making sure health care will be available to Mapleton area residents for the long term," said Tramp. "We are extremely pleased that both Drs. Alan and Jennifer Schenne will remain as physicians in their clinic and welcome NeLinda Rhode to provide us with added patient care support."

A critical access hospital, Burgess qualifies for higher Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement levels for the clinic because it is certified as a Rural Health Clinic.

Burgess currently operates home health, hospice and physical therapy services in the clinic building. The Onawa hospital, which regularly admits patients from the Mapleton area, also operates family clinics in Sloan and Dunlap.

Burgess is a partner with Maple Valley Development, Inc. which owns the Ganzhorn Health Service Building where the clinic is located.
Persons can make appointments at the clinic by calling 712-882-2234.
