Dr. Mary to Address Wear Red Event in Onawa Feb. 9

 Dr. Mary Groda-Lewis will join cardiologists Drs. Deborah Majerus and Claire Hunter in addressing Burgess Health Center's third annual “Wear Red” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the Onawa Community Center.

Dr. Mary will speak briefly on "Quality Living." Dr. Majerus will address "Cultivating Hearts" and Dr. Claire Hunter will speak to "New Heart Health Guidelines for Men and Women."

Dr. Mary, medical director for Burgess Family Beginnings and Monona County Public Health, has practiced at Family Medicine Clinic in Onawa since late 2008. She previously practiced with clinics in Hawaii, Idaho and Wisconsin. She also was the subject of a CBS-TV movie and stories in national magazines detailing how she triumphed over a difficult childhood, a learning disability, a stroke and more to become a physician.

After medical school, Dr. Mary completed her residency in family practice at Western Reserve Residency Program Northside Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio . She has a special focus on women's health, obstetrics and children.

Doors open for Wear Red at 11 a.m. with juice, coffee and educational booths. A buffet luncheon will be served by Staley's. Prizes will be awarded for red attire for both men and women. Cost is $10 for the public and $8 for active volunteers.
