SURGERY
Surgeries
are performed by board certified surgeons and by other specialists.
These include both the active members of the medical staff
and those associated with specialty clinics.
- Appointments are scheduled for pre-surgery tests and teaching.
- Approximately 70 percent of surgeries are performed on
outpatients who return home on the day of their surgery.
- Anesthesia is provided by Burgess' anesthesiologist and
certified registered nurse anesthetist.
- Among the many procedures conducted in the Burgess surgery
area, several incorporate the use of endoscopes and laproscopes.
- An endoscope enables doctors to view the
inside of the stomach or colon, and to remove polyps or
obtain tissue samples, all without invasive surgery.
- A laparoscope allows surgery to be performed
through a small
incision while a camera provides a view of the surgical
area. The result of
this technique is faster healing, less pain and a more
rapid return to
health.
